your gonna need a 6x2x4 foot (Lenghtxdepthxheight) viv minimum
the correct ventalation is important. too much and the vivarium will dry out
too little and mould and fungus growth cn harm your pet.
substrate, orchid bark, eco earth (aka coco humus, bed a beast or coco coir) or steralised orgainic (fertaliser and pesticide free) potting soil
You need a 55 gallon tank and make sure to put a lot of branches, also keep it at 60 to 70 humidity and 80 to 90 heat, don’t get bigger than 55 gallon because the python can get stress out, they dont need a big cage!!!
here is what i did for our ATB’s the tank in the middle is the one that i used for them. it was 3 foot long and 2 foot high (if i remember correctly probably about 1 1/2 foot deep. the thing on the right side of the tank is something that we got at home depot…the wire shelving. it drilled some holes in the lip of the tank to hang it from. i put beaked moss in the basket itself that and kept it sprayed down and then attached one of the plastic vine things that suction to the side of the tank so that it had a kind of hidden place in the basket. the ATB’s spent most of their time in that during the day. I had lots of the vine things that you can twist and shape…mostly the large size. i had a big piece of driftwood that was in the left hand corner in the back (i don’t think you can see that in the pic). i also had a lot of the plastic vine things that suction onto the side of the tank. on the bottom of the tank i had of course a large dish of water. for the substrate i used cypress mulch (forest floor by zoo med) because it holds moisture well. on top there was a screen lid and i got the clips that lock the screen lid down. for lighting i had one of the strip lights…the 18 uvb light.
in my set up i had 4 ATB’s but i would have put just one in this size of a tank. ATB’s are long snakes and need the room (in my oponion) to stretch out. and they didn’t get stressed out…i think someone that was broke and couldn’t afford to get a larger tank for their snake started the myth that they will stress out in a tank that is too big for them. snakes in the wild aren’t in tanks and they have all that room to move around. they need secure places in the tank to hide (ATB’s a tree top) to feel secure though that’s why i built the thing with the wire basket for my ATB’s.
oh yeah the best way to spray the ATB tank is to get a small yard sprayer from home depot or lowe’s and give the tank a good spray twice a day. i use bottled water to spray my snake tanks because we have hard water and it causes spots that won’t come off of the tank…bottled water you can get the spots off easily.
good luck!!
