How much does Amazon charge for selling stuff? I have already read on their page, but I am unclear still?

AMAZON
Yanny asked:

I have read information on their page, but I would ilke to know every single detail because I will be selling several items online. I read that there is a monthly fee for 39.99 is this for a specific program that they have or for every single individual that sells on Amazon? Another thing, would you recommend selling on Ebay or Amazon? Thanks for your replies….

You asked if you should use Amazon OR E-bay and my answer is: BOTH. Join the affiliate program of Amazon so you can sell EVERYTHING they sell on their site. Join e-bay to sell everything else you have laying around or have access to. Both work very well and I’m sure you have success.

They have several levels of Selling programs on Amazon.

Market Place (free to list, pay 6-15% of sale, 99cent fee and variable fee 80 cents to 1.50)

ProMerchant (39.99 month, pay all above except 99 cent fee per sale, other perks)

Seller Central (59.99 month, lower %’s, other perks)

Affiliate Program – See their site for details.

Here are the key differences between Amazon and eBay:

    Ebay:

    Pay listing fee
    PIck 1, 3, 5, 7, or 10 day listing
Pick Auction or Fix Priced format
    Set shipping charges
Pay nothing else if it doesn’t sell
Pay Final Value Fee if it does sell (8-12%)
Pay Paypal Fee (some items require you to take it) (2,9%)
If you set a Reserve and it is not met, you don’t have to sell it and no additional fees

    Amazon:
    NO Listing fee
Listings stay up for 60 days.
    You set the price.
    Amazon sets the shipping fee
If it sells, Amazon gets 12-15% plus 99 cents plus variable fee.

    Key differences:
You can’t refuse a sale on Amazon or it reflects on your performance
Shipping charges are fixed on Amazon so you have to price things to cover shipping.
Amazon has more stringent performance rules, they err on the side of the buyer
At Amazon, you don’t have to deal with the hassle of getting or processing payment. Amazon does all that, you get an email from them that say SHIP IT!
